For Teachers · للمعلمين · 6-minute read
Marking writing takes time, and students often read the grade and ignore the comments. AI can help you write clearer, faster feedback, but only if the teacher stays in control of the judgment. Here is what works, what to check, and a workflow you can use tomorrow.
Where AI helps
- Drafting rubric-based comments in clear, student-friendly language.
- Spotting patterns across a class set: the five errors most students made.
- Creating model sentences that show a better version of a weak sentence.
- Writing short revision tasks that target each student’s next step.
What only the teacher can do
- Decide the final mark. AI scores can be inconsistent and are not accountable.
- Judge the ideas. Is the content relevant, accurate and does it answer the task?
- Protect the student’s voice. Feedback should improve their writing, not replace it with the AI’s style.
- Know the student. Progress, effort and context matter, and AI cannot see them.
A 5-step workflow
- Remove names and personal details from the text, and use only tools your school approves.
- Give the AI your rubric, for example Content 4 · Organisation 2 · Language 2 · Accuracy 2, and the task the student answered.
- Ask for two strengths and two next steps, each with a quotation from the text as evidence.
- Review and edit every comment before the student sees it. Delete anything vague, wrong or too advanced.
- Make students act on it. Ask them to rewrite one paragraph using the feedback. That is where the learning happens.
Sample prompt
You are an experienced English teacher giving feedback to a Grade 11 student (B1).
Task: write a formal email asking for information about a part-time job.
Rubric: Content 4, Organisation 2, Language 2, Accuracy 2.
Give: 2 strengths and 2 next steps. For each, quote the student's words.
Use short, encouraging sentences the student can understand.
Do NOT rewrite the email and do NOT give a mark.

Quick check before you share · قبل أن تشارك
- Is every comment true for this text?
- Can the student understand it without help?
- Does each next step tell them exactly what to do?
- Does the final mark reflect your judgment?
